Visiting the German hospitals ... or a crash course in German
Recently we went to a family reunion in Braunschweig in Germany. We had borrowed Lenes fathers car and drove down there. Samuel had behaved very nicely on the trip and everything seemed to work out perfectly - at least the first few hours! A little after midnight Samuel woke up several times in a row, crying more and more for each time. After a while we took him up and noticed that he was really warm. We ended up calling the doctor on call who advised us to go to the childrens hospital. So around 3 am we arrived there and Samuel was examined. He had a little fever and wouldn't eat and the doctor diagnozed him with a stomach infection, and so Lene and Samuel was admitted to the hospital that night. Mike went back to the hotel and Lene was left alone with a non-English speaking nightnurse and a sick baby! Over the next few days she learned more and more words; like throw up, fever, change diapers, nurse, doctor, sick and stomach infection. Even though Lene managed to pick up quite a few words out of neccesity, Lene have now decided to learn German.
Samuel got an IV-drip with salt- and sugarwater untill he started drinking again and ended up stayed in the hospital for 4 days. When he was finally discharged we went out for a quick shopping and drove straight home to Denmark. It wasn't really the vacation we had hoped for.
Fortunately we managed to spend a little time with Mikes family on the Saturday and Mikes mother and sister came by and visited us on the Sunday.
The pictures here apart from the last one are from the stay at the hospital. The last one is a healthy Samuel going home!
