Germany - the spiders

This morning I heard a loud scream from the basement. My friend, Martha, had encountered a spider.

I quickly volunteered to kill it for her. But I had no idea of the size of that thing. The little tissue I had brought down with me seemed very unfit for the challenge. The spider was huge.

Tonight there was another outburst from the basement. Once more I volunteered finishing off the spider for her, and once more I was shocked at the size of it. This must be the older brother of the spider from this morning. The older brother on steroids, that is!

I even took a picture of the spider, and when you zoom in you can see the hairy legs. I shared this information with poor Martha as she was standing at a safe distance from the spider. She was not impressed.

You know what I like about this? I like that some things never change. Martha's always been afraid of spiders and probably always will. She actually used to suck them up with her vacuumer, let it run for a while, to kill them, and tie a bag around the vacuum hose, so the ones that might survive couldn't get back out again.

I like that with a real friend, you can laugh so hard you almost pee your pants. You know what I mean. Even if you are planning the best way to kill a spider you can still laugh. And laugh a lot. I nearly lost it when my first blow with the boot didn't kill the spider and Martha ran up the stairs, yelling "It's still alive, it's still alive". And she did not come down till the spider was completely dead.

And I like that she did my laundry. It really doesn't have anything to do with the spider, but I still liked it.

Thank you, Martha.

I am more than happy to kill more spiders for you. Although if they get any bigger than the ones from today, we might have to call in some sort of reinforcement.
