I went all out. We're talking homemade cinnamon rolls, breakfast rolls and vanilla muffins, birthday banner, flags, gifts in funky wrapping and the famous birthday tablecloth.
(You can tell I compensating for the last birthdays I totally missed. Sorry babysitter-Lisbeth, sorry nephew Rasmus and sorry mother-in-law who even turned 70! I am so embarrassed)
There was even two charming little boys who were delighted to wake up to find their Aunt Anne there.
Oh, the joy!
We spent a relaxed morning together, went out for lunch and then she left us. She was off to catch a flight to Bruxelles to spend the rest of her birthday.
Globetrotter-Anne!
And yes, I am totally envious. The most excitement I have nowadays is a trainride around Copenhagen. In my past the excitement was a trainride from Russia to China.
Okay, moving on!
Anyway she spent a nice weekend in Bruxelles and returned home with these.
Two of the heads had fallen off - and I ate them right away! That's the kinda girl I am. |
What is this, you might ask?
Well, let's get closer.
From left; White chocolate, pistacchio, and strawberry flavoured. |
Obviously it's chocolate versions of Manneken Pis, the famous Belgian fountain.
I think that is a great souvenir. They didn't last too long, though. But they were quite tasty.
Apart from the orange-flavoured one. That wasn't very good. Half of it ended up in my trash can. But the other ones dissapeared pretty fast.
I think the idea of having a peeing boy as a national symbol is fairly strange. We have a mermaid which is also kinda odd, but compared to the peeing boy, the Belgians win, hands down.
However, my sister told me something that absolutely made my day, possibly even my week.
The little darling, Mr. Pis, actually have outfits.
Yes, it is true. Not only do the Belgians have a peeing boy, but they also dress him out.
Manneken Pis as Santa. That is not that scary, right? |
Supposedly there is a museum near the fountain where they store all the different outfits the little one have. Needless to say I am very fascinated, and I wish my sister would have visited armed with her camera.
Oh, The pictures, the pictures.
I guess I have to settle for this. My favorite is the firemans outfit!
Ha ha ha ha ha ...
