The Zoo, brunch and a train

Yesterday we took the kids out for brunch. It was a belated birthday celebration for yours truly. I even got to sleep in too.

It was heaven. Heaven with bacon and eggs.

When Samuel was done eating his brunch, he slid of his chair and laid down on the floor. He was very content down there, but he was also pretty tired.

The day before had been action packed. To the max.

We started out with a long visit with his best friend, Anne Sofie, with loads of great activities. Afterwards there was a quick sandwich which his mother claimed was dinner. And then we went out the door again, this time for the halloween special at the zoo.

You know what. It is actually pretty difficult to see the animals when it is pitch black. We did however see a sleeping monkey, which Samuel spent quite a while talking about, a yawning crocodile and the shadows of some elephants. Mike, Samuel and me all touched a snake, and I held a huge insect on the palm of my hand. Mike was filming it from a safe distance since it appears that he is a little worried about the creepy crawlers.

The more adventurous could also eat deepfried insects which apparently tasted just like popcorn, watch giant spiders up close or see a lady cut up bats. I am not sure the reason for it, but she had a lot of dead bats in front of her.

Saturday morning we had very tired children. Over-stimulated, tired children. They behaved like a dream at the cafe where we had brunch.

I think they were too tired to do otherwise.

As we were getting ready to leave, Samuel said this to me: Ajwangonesain. I obviously had no idea what that meant. So I asked whether he was still hungry or thirsty. No, was the answer.

He kept on saying "Ajwangonesain". And after hearing it a few times, or ten, it finally clicked on me what he wanted.

I want to go on a train.

Where does that come from? The kid have been laying on the floor the last 15 minutes, chilling, head on my bag, and now suddenly he wants to go for a ride on the train?

I am thinking that another time, I might skip the night-zoo, the standing in line for 30 minutes, the sore and tired feet and the screaming Magnus who refused to sleep in his buggy, the 10,000 others who also thought the halloween zoo was a great idea and the absolute lack of anything edible in there. Deepfried bugs doesn't count.

Instead we'll take a nice and quiet train ride.

Maybe there will even be a dog we can pet on the train, or we'll see some birds or cows out the window.

It will be almost the same thing.
