Thoughts on birthdays
I am very grateful for good friends.
Especially for good friends who, when the kids and I came by for a playdate, serves heartshaped homemade icecream for me. Complete with a little birthdayflag in honour of my recent birthday.
Awwwww!
It is not so much the icecream itself, I guess, even though it was absolutely tasty. For me it was the thought behind it and the feeling that someone took time out of their busy schedule to do something special for me.
I felt like a very fortunate woman.
And on a sidenote. My birthday wasn't all that. Too much porridge, bad planning and by 3 pm all I had was two stale rolls, some grapes and a nap. We ended the night at a fancy restaurant where we had frog legs.
I am not sure whether they made my day better or not. They were fried in a doughnut dough and tasted mostly of oil. Again, not sure whether that improved my day or not. At least now I can add frogleg-eater to my CV.
I do, however, know that the foie gras with pickled plums, the creme bruleé, the lemon icecream with burnt white chocolate and the creamy chocolate cake definitly improved my day. Oh, did they ever!
And the gift from Mike.
Among other things he gave me three days without kids. Yes, you know you are truly and fully a stay-at-home mom when that is one of the best gifts you've ever received.
And the heartshaped birthday icecream. I already said that, but it was so sweet that it counts twice.
