Kitchen duty

I put up the playpen again. It was necessary for the safety of the little one. I then hear strange sounds from the livingroom. I go investigate.

Samuel is systematically throwing all of Magnus' toys into the playpen - and hitting Magnus who is in the playpen, almost covered in toys.

Maybe I should put Samuel inside the playpen instead?

Samuel wants to help me cook today. Magnus is next to us, munching on a carrot. Samuel wears his own apron and is grating apples.

I am worried about the safety of his fingers. "The grater is sharp", I tell him over and over again, while trying to help him. He doesn't listen to me. He is busy.

When he is done grating the apples, he gives the carrots a try. They are harder than the apples and he has to use more force to grate them. It takes so long and I worry that he might hurt himself.

I show him how to move the fingers up the carrot, keeping them far away from the grater. He does it for a second, then forgets about it.

I want to finish dinner and for him to stop grating. I am in a hurry. I hint that Magnus and daddy are probably having a great time. "I wonder what they are doing!"

He motions for me to remove his apron and in a heartbeat he has left the kitchen. I can hear laughter from the bedroom.

I quickly grate the remaining carrots and the beets, wanting to finish dinner fast.

When the kids are asleep I clean up the kitchen. The washing machine is on. A full load. I just did one yesterday. I also need to wash a dark load after Magnus threw up on me. Twice.

When I pass the washing machine I notice that the carrot Magnus had earlier is now inside the machine among the laundry. How did that happen?

I do the dishes. The wounds from the grater hurt when I put my fingers into the warm water. I put on a latexglove. It helps.

I feel rather stupid. Next time I will let Samuel grate all the vegetables!
